Liverpool the attacker confirmed Alexander Isak has undergone surgery on the broken leg he suffered against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Isak came on to open the scoring for Arne Slot’s team in a 2-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadiumbut was caught by Micky van de Ven immediately after hitting the ball.
The Sweden international tried to continue but was unable to continue playing and was eventually withdrawn.
The Reds confirmed the 26-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle in a record £125million deal in September, suffered a broken leg and underwent surgery on Monday.
The club have not specified a recovery timetable, but it is believed the striker could be out for at least a few months.
“Alexander Isak today underwent successful surgery on the injury he suffered on Saturday,” Liverpool said in a statement.
“Following the diagnosis, an operation was completed today on an ankle injury including a fractured fibula.
“Isak’s rehabilitation will now continue at the AXA Training Center, with no timetable yet set for his return.”
Slot’s side are next in action on December 27 when they host bottom club Wolves at Anfield, with the visitors still looking for their first top flight of the campaign.
The champions are currently fifth in the table, level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea, but 10 points behind leaders Arsenal.
