The scheduled championship match between AC Milan and Como, which would be played in Perth, Australia, was canceled due to the Series A The president called the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) “unacceptable demands”.
This match, scheduled for February 8, 2026, would have been the first ever European domestic championship match held abroad.
However, financial risks and last-minute complications made it “impossible” to hold the match, according to Serie A president Ezio Simonelli.
“Faced with an escalation of new unacceptable demands made in recent hours by the AFC to the Australian Federation and, consequently, to the Government of Western Australia and the Serie A Football League, it has become impossible to play the Milan-Como match in Perth on February 8,” Simonelli said.
The cancellation comes just two months later LaLiga scrapped plans to play Barcelona-Villarreal league match in Miami after criticism and opposition in Spain.
UEFA called the decision to initially approve the matches a “regrettable” decision.while Football Supporters Europe (FSE) said “one domestic match abroad is one game too many”.
Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said in August that there was no plans to stage a top-flight English match abroad.
