THE Switch 2 Pro the controller is the best controller Nintendo never created – and that’s saying something. It’s incredibly comfortable to hold, its joysticks are buttery smooth, and all of its buttons are wonderfully responsive. Nintendo even made it customizable this time with back buttons that can easily be mapped into any game.
The only downside? The Switch 2 Pro controller costs $85, which seems a bit huge when you can get a great controller like 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless Game Controller for $60. As good as the competition is, you won’t find anything that can be easily configured directly from the Switch 2’s UI.
Despite its high cost, the Switch 2 Pro controller has significantly increased my Mario Kart World experience. My hands often feel cramped when I play this game for too long with the Switch 2’s Joy-Con 2 controllers. But there’s none of that with the Switch 2 Pro controller. I was able to run for an hour without any discomfort, and I also noticed that it was easier for me to perform the game’s tricky rail jumping and sliding maneuvers.
The Switch 2 Pro controller is also very useful for fighting games, thanks to its smooth and precise directional pad. It easily adapts to most genres, although it would have been nice to see analog triggers for more precise control in serious racing games. — Devindra Hardawar, senior reporter
