Gervonta Davis targeted for ‘super fight’ rematch: ‘There’s been no fight like this’

Gervonta Davis was called up for a lucrative rematch, most likely at a weight where he would be forced to face a sizable size gap.

The 31-year-old hasn’t fought since his controversial draw with Lamont Roach, who was ultimately denied a monumental victory in March.

Their meeting at lightweight was then followed by the bizarre news that Davis, who still holds the WBA world title at 135 pounds, would participate in an exhibition match with Jake Paul.

The two were supposed to meet at 195 pounds on Nov. 14, before “Tank” was kicked out of their Netflix event due to new domestic violence allegations.

Instead, Paul suffered a sixth-round stoppage loss to Anthony Joshua last FridayDavis still facing legal action from his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel.

For now, it’s unclear if the Baltimore man will ever return to the ring, let alone defend his WBA title against a worthy challenger.

But nonetheless, Ryan Garcia has now thrown his hat into the ring for a potential rematch, hoping to avenge his 2023 seventh-round stoppage loss.

The 27-year-old is expected to challenge WBC welterweight world champion Mario Barrios next February, despite a points loss to Rolando Romero in May.

But even though that appears to be the plan, Garcia nonetheless expressed interest in a second meeting with Davis.

“To be true, there hasn’t been a fight like my fight with Gervonta. We brought back the OG super fight for one night. I want to do another one like that.”

Garcia made no secret that he wanted to avenge his loss to “Tank,” citing the rehydration clause as the reason for the dominant loss. As he now campaigns at 147 pounds and doesn’t appear to be coming down, having him return with the naturally smaller Davis seems more unlikely than ever.
