Fever’s Kelsey Mitchell Shares Message About Unprecedented Debut

Kelsey Mitchell is rarely active on social media, which is why her Monday night post raised eyebrows among fans awaiting her free agency decision and upcoming debut in the Unrivaled League’s second season.

In a post shared on X, Mitchell posted a cryptic note, quoting a well-known phrase from American poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou:

β€œWhen people show you who they are, believe them the first time. πŸ§˜πŸΎβ€β™€οΈβ€

Fan reactions ranged from concern to encouragement, with many expressing support while waiting to see what Mitchell’s next move in basketball will be.

With Mitchell carrying the load in an injury-riddled season, the Indiana Fever shocked the No. 3 seed Atlanta Dream in the first round, then pushed the Las Vegas Aces to a closely contested Game 5 before ultimately falling short.

After this impressive playoff run, Fever general manager Amber Cox made it clear what the organization’s top priority will be this offseason.

“I’m going to look like a broken record from last year. The priority will be Kelsey Mitchell and making sure she stays in the Fever jersey. Wow, what a season for her. She put it all on the line,” Cox said. β€œ(Mitchell) will continue to be a focal point as we enter free agency.”

Mitchell had a career-best season, averaging 20.2 points per game while shooting 39.4 percent from beyond the arc, and she upped her playoff production to 22.3 points per game on 42.9 percent shooting from deep.

Who are Kelsey Mitchell’s teammates in Unrivaled’s debut?

Playing in leagues outside the WNBA has become increasingly common for players, especially this offseason, as questions surrounding the league’s future persist amid stalled CBA negotiations.

Kelsey Mitchell is set to join Unrivaled for the first time, competing in the league’s second season following a successful inaugural campaign in 2025.

Mitchell will suit the Hive BC expansion franchise, which will debut in 2026 alongside Breeze BC.

With Hive BC, Mitchell will be joined by Sonia Citron, Ezi Magbegor, Natisha Hiedeman, Saniya Rivers and Monique Billings.

Several other Fever players are also expected to participate in Unrivaled, with Lexie Hull join Rose BC, Aliyah Boston playing for Phantom BC and Aari McDonald is expected to represent Breeze BC.

Unrivaled is set to begin its second season on January 4.
