Algerian Parliament calls French colonization a crime and demands apologies and reparations




Algeria’s parliament voted unanimously on Wednesday to declare France’s 130 years of colonization of the country a crime, calling for a formal apology and reparations from Paris. This largely symbolic decision comes in a context of a growing diplomatic gap between the two countries and underlines the continuing sensitivity of the colonial past of this North African country.
