Phil Jones hints at his future plans after graduating from PFA Business School

Phil Jones is among a group of former Premier League stars to graduate from the PFA Business School, gaining a degree in sports management.

The former Manchester United defender, who retired last year aged 32, received his diploma at a ceremony this week. Sharing photos on Instagram in his cap and gown, Jones hinted at the next step in his career.

“Global Sports Directors Course conducted @thepfabusiness,” he wrote. “Building on my coaching badges and current Pro license, as the journey continues…”

Congratulations quickly poured in from former United and England team-mates, including Antonio Valencia and Kyle Walker, as well as Benni McCarthy and Sam Allardyce – the manager who first gave him his professional breakthrough at Blackburn Rovers.

Jones wasn’t the only familiar name among the promotion.

Former Newcastle and Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul and West Brom prop Kyle Bartley also gained degrees in sports management, while Premier League winner Danny Simpson gained a degree in football psychology, emotional intelligence and leadership.

There were also current stars: Newcastle’s Yoane Wissa and five-time Premier League champion Ilkay Gündogan were both part of the latest promotion.

As for Jones, with Manchester United in deep crisis on and off the pitch, some fans will wonder whether a future role at Old Trafford could be on the horizon.
