Ed Sheeran revealed as Barcelona shirt sponsor for El Clasico

Barcelona will swap their usual sponsor for Ed Sheeran when they face Real Madrid in next month’s Clasico, continuing their tradition of featuring music icons on their jerseys through their partnership with Spotify.

Spotify, which owns the naming rights to the Camp Nou, previously replaced the sponsor logo of Barça’s biggest game with Drake, Rosalía, the Rolling Stones, Karol G, Coldplay and Travis Scott.

Sheeran will now join that list when Barcelona travel to the Santiago Bernabéu on October 26.

According to Catalan media CAR1the shirt will either have Ed Sheeran’s name or his new album’s logo on it “Play”. Barca kit specialist @memorabilia1899 has claimed both models are being considered.

As with previous collaborations, a lifestyle collection tied to the special shirt could also be released, with proceeds often directed to charity, although no details have been confirmed this time around.

Sheeran – who, fittingly, released a song called “Barcelona” back in 2017 – released “Play” on September 12 to mixed reviews.

However, if Hansi Flick’s team manages to beat Madrid in Sheeran-branded jerseys, you can be sure that the Catalan fans will be shouting it out loud (see what we did there?).
