As 2025 draws to a close and the new year approaches, Google revealed its Year in Search, highlighting the events, people, and pop culture moments that drove the biggest spikes in search interest.
Charlie Kirk topped this year’s list as the #1 search in the United States. The founder of Turning Point USA was shot and killed while speaking at an event on the campus of Utah Valley University on September 10, fueling a nationwide push in research activity.
The top five was rounded out by Netflix’s hit movie “KPop Demon Hunters,” viral collectible plush Labubu, Apple’s iPhone 17 and the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which was signed into law in July.
Other major spikes in search activity include the elected mayor of New York City. Zohran MamdaniDeepSeek AI platform, government shutdown, FIFA Club World Cup and pricing, according to to Google.
