Morocco hosts Mali this evening. Find all the team news here…
Morocco, the host country of the tournament, can take a giant step towards qualifying for the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations this evening with a victory against Mali.
Walid Regragui’s side beat Comoros 2-0 in their opening match and while it wasn’t a vintage performance from the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists, it was enough to start their campaign on a winning note.
“The first match is always complicated in the history of the CAN. The second is different. We face a team that we know very well, and who know us very well,” said Regragui.
Mali drew 1-1 with Zambia after conceding the equalizer in injury time and know it was almost a free kick in front of a passionate crowd in Rabat.
Coach Tom Saintfiet said: “The pressure is mainly on Morocco. They are considered big favorites, they play at home and they have a very strong team, with experience and quality in all positions. We arrive without any inferiority complex. We want to try to create a surprise on Friday. All 28 players are available, ready to fight together.”
