It’s an open secret that Man United are looking for a midfield reinforcement in the January transfer window after Ruben Amorim has been hit by one too many injuries in recent weeks.

Man United are considering bidding for a former centre-back target in 2026.

So INEOS needs to get to work. Before the winter window, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co. would have set their sights on Rubén Nevès, Adam Wharton and several others.

Neves has been a name particularly mentioned of late, as he looks to return to the Premier League. Find a way to top his Saudi salary and there’s no doubt he could become a great solution to Man United’s problems.

There are also doubts about Mainoo’s future. The Carrington graduate has struggled for game time since Amorim’s arrival and after his brother was spotted wearing a ‘Free Kobbie Mainoo’ t-shirt at Old Trafford, a number of departure rumors emerged.

Reports suggest that people like Chelsea And Bayern Munich have set their sights on Mainoo, although it remains to be seen whether Amorim will decide to block its release.

If he leaves, James Garner could become a serious option. According to the Daily Mail, INEOS currently discussing the signing of Garner Everton next month.

Man Utd could complete deal for Garner

Among all the rumors that INEOS might spend money next year, Garner represents a bargain. The Everton star is entering the final six months of his current contract on Merseyside and could yet leave the club as a free agent.

This means the Toffees will likely only have one last chance to cash in on their midfielder in January, potentially allowing United to offer a cut-price deal for their own benefit.

James Garner for Everton

The obstacle for United is that Everton are still trying to convince the Carrington graduate to sign a new contract with the club and manager David Moyes has made no secret of his admiration for Garner.

The veteran manager told reporters earlier this season: “He’s been fantastic since I came in. I probably didn’t realize how good he was. He’s been so good.

“He played very well in midfield and he also played as a full-back for me. I’ve said a few times recently that he’s probably on the verge of being the talk of the town for England because of his performances..

“By the way, England have so many good players to choose from, so anyone can select a team [is difficult]. I’ve been listening to talk all week about (Phil) Foden and (Jude) Bellingham etc, but all I’m saying is that Jimmy is part of the group of young England midfielders who, perhaps, in the future, will have a chance of being called up.”
