A winter storm on the East Coast has left post-Christmas travelers in a horrible position as airports experience massive cancellations and delays.
The website Aware of theft showed that as of 7:50 a.m. ET Saturday, 892 flights within, to or from the United States had been delayed and 637 had been canceled.
The website “Map of misery” shows New York area airports, such as John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport, bearing the brunt of travel chaos.

New Jersey and parts of New York are under state of emergency announcements as more than 50 million Americans are expected to be affected by the winter storm moving through the Northeast, Fox Weather reported. Officials in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania are urging travelers and residents should exercise caution during the storm, according to Fox Weather. Additionally, a series of winter weather alerts were issued in areas from New York to Philadelphia.
As of 7:52 a.m. ET, JFK Airport, which topped FlightAware’s Misery Map list, had recorded 30 delays and 77 cancellations since 5 a.m. ET. The Federal Aviation Administration said flights arriving at the airport were delayed an average of two hours and 37 minutes.
Saturday’s delays and cancellations were preceded by similar travel chaos Friday as the Northeast braced for the storm. As of Friday, a total of 8,816 flights within, to or from the United States were delayed and 1,710 were canceled, according to FlightAware.

“I came to New York to spend a Christmas alone at home,” said Danniel Sermone, stuck at JFK International Airport. the New York Post Friday. “I wanted to go out. I went shopping, I went to Times Square, I walked through there for a while with the big crowds. My next available flight is at 6 a.m. on the 28th. So I hung out at JFK for about eight hours and I still have about 30 to go.”

The west coast was not spared from the winter travel chaos, as it experienced a disastrous rainstorm, although it did not appear to cause the same amount of disruption. FlightAware showed that Los Angeles International Airport had 64 flight delays and 15 cancellations as of 4:10 a.m. PST. Additionally, FlightAware showed that as of 4:10 a.m. PT Harry Reid International Airport had experienced 16 delays and nine cancellations.
