Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister, Khaleda Zia, has died at the age of 80.

Bangladesh’s former prime minister and opposition leader Khaleda Zia has died at the age of 80, her party announced Tuesday, just months before elections many expected for her return to power. Her death ends a turbulent political career marked by imprisonment, health problems and an attempted dramatic comeback after the fall of her longtime rival, Sheikh Hasina.
