Oman squad announced for T20 World Cup; Jatinder Singh named captain, Sulakshan Kulkarni named coach


Oman has finally announced its 15-member squad for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will mark the Asian underdogs’ fourth appearance in the World Cup. Jatinder Singh was made the captain of the team.

They have made three major changes to the team from the one that participated in the 2025 Asia Cup. The upcoming ICC T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka and will feature a total of 20 teams in the tournament.

India are the reigning champions of the competition, while Oman hosts matches at several venues in Sri Lanka. Oman failed to qualify for the Super-4 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup, after losing all matches in the group stage.

Oman announces 15-member squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2026

The 20-team tournament is scheduled to begin on February 7 and Oman will begin their campaign against Zimbabwe in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo.

Before the tournament, they will play warm-up matches against Zimbabwe on February 3, then against Sri Lanka A for the final warm-up match on the 6th in Colombo.

Oman’s World Cup squad has three new inclusions in the last 15: Wasim Ali, Jay Odedra and Karan Sonavale, while Aamir Kaleem, Sufyan Yousuf, Aryan Bisht, Zikria Islam and Mohammed Imran are among the players from the Asia Cup squad who have been left out.

Oman coach highlights team mentality to face tough group

Oman is placed in the same group as Zimbabwe, hosts Sri Lanka, Ireland and finally the powerful Australians. The trip will begin on February 9 in the Lankan capital of Colombo and then the action will move to Kandy, where they will face the host team.

The next two matches will take place against Ireland in Colombo and against Australia in Kandy on February 14 and 20. This will mark the end of the group stage matches for Oman. Speaking on behalf of his team, manager Alkesh Joshi said that “This is our fourth participation in the World Cup, and our goal this time is to make an impact. We have made very careful selection decisions, keeping this goal in mind.”

He expressed great confidence and faith in his selections and recognized the efforts of the players and the entire coaching staff. “It’s a difficult group, but we are extremely confident in the group and in the team we have selected. The players are very motivated and eager to go out and stand out in this World Cup,” he concluded.

Oman selected a completely robust team full of young people. In total, 11 of the 15 players selected will make their World Cup debut, bringing a sense of freshness to the team. Additionally, confidence within the team has been boosted by their performance and improvements over the past six months.
