Paris — Call them Mr. and Mrs. Clooney.
The French government has announced that George Clooney, his wife Amal and their eight-year-old twins Ella and Alexander have obtained French citizenship.
The naturalizations of the star from Kentucky and his family were announced last weekend in the Official Journal, where the decrees of the French government are published.
The government notice stated that human rights lawyer Amal Clooney had been naturalized under her maiden name, Amal Alamuddin. He also noted that George Clooney’s middle name is Timothy.

The couple purchased an estate in France in 2021. In an interview with Esquire in October, Clooney described their “farm in France” as their primary residence — a decision the 64-year-old actor and his 47-year-old wife made with their children in mind.
“I was afraid of raising our kids in Los Angeles, in Hollywood culture,” he told the magazine. “I don’t want them to worry about the paparazzi. I don’t want them to be compared to someone else’s famous kids.”
Having grown up far from the spotlight, in France, “they’re not on their iPad, you know?” he said. “They eat dinner with adults and have to bring their own food. They have a much better life.”
Representatives for George Clooney did not respond to The Associated Press’ request for comment Monday.
It was not immediately clear whether Clooney retained his U.S. citizenship. Amal Clooney was born in Lebanon and raised in the United Kingdom. She was born in London.
In early December, George Clooney said in English on the French radio channel RTL: “I love French culture, your language, even if I’m still bad after 400 days of lessons,” according to the French news agency AFP.
Clooney owns an estate in Italy’s Lake Como region and he and Amal bought a historic mansion in England, AFP reports, adding that they also own an apartment in New York and property in Kentucky.
But he told RTL that his family’s French home “is the place where we are happiest”, AFP noted.
