Deborah Colliera 69-year-old Florida woman has been indicted for allegedly drugging her disabled great-granddaughter in an attempted murder-suicide.
According to a press release from Volusia Sheriff’s Officedeputies went looking for Collier on Monday, December 29. This, after she allegedly left her home and left behind a suicide note found by her family. In addition, the police located his vehicle and carried out a traffic stop. According to the release, Collier was inside his vehicle with his 13-year-old great-granddaughter, who was reportedly “unconscious in the passenger seat.”
During the traffic stop, Collier allegedly told the officer that his granddaughter was sleeping.
“However, officers discovered white pill residue on her and found her to be completely unresponsive to stimuli,” adds the press release.
Subsequently, the 13-year-old was transferred to the hospital while the investigation continued with Collier. In the woman’s purse, police allegedly found “bottles of prescription medication and another typed note stating that Collier was ending her life and that of her great-granddaughter.” This would be due to “stress caused to the rest of the family”.
According to the release, deputies learned that Collier’s great-granddaughter required 24-hour care, and that the woman and her husband were the sole caregivers and guardians of the 13-year-old girl.
“The constant demands for care contributed to significant stress in the family. Collier was opposed to the idea of the victim receiving care in an assisted living facility and stated that she felt no one would care for her like family. In her desperation due to these difficulties, Collier developed a plan to end her great-granddaughter’s life, followed by her own,” the statement said.
Ultimately, Collier was taken to the Volusia County Jail and is being held without bail. Additionally, the release states that she was charged with “attempted first degree murder.” Finally, the release states that her granddaughter is now in stable condition despite taking “pills that Collier gave her to end her life.”
Before Deborah A. Collier attempted to commit a murder-suicide involving her disabled great-granddaughter, another incident in Florida made headlines. As The shadow room previously reported, Tiffany Griffith was accused of entering a swimming pool while at a resort with her son and pushing and holding another boy underwater. This, leaving the child “visibly upset”.
