Liverpool are being linked with a surprise move for Manchester United transfer target Carlos Baleba.
According to Anfield Watch, Liverpool are looking to strengthen their midfield and Baléba is at the top of the club’s list.
According to the report, the Reds have long admired the player and were also monitoring his situation this summer.
He further adds that Arne Slot’s side were also ready to make their own bid before Brighton’s position became apparent.
Manchester United have been looking for Baleba since the summer transfer window, with the Red Devils even making an offer for the midfielder.
But this move did not materialize at that time due to Brighton’s high valuation of the player, despite the player’s willingness to make the move.
United have not stopped targeting the player, with Ruben Amorim viewing him as the ideal signing to solve their midfield problems.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the club remains in contact with the player’s entourage and would rush to sign Baleba as soon as Brighton show they are willing to sell the midfielder.
That said, they could face surprise competition from Liverpool, who are believed to have entered the race to sign the 21-year-old.

Speaking in a recent YouTube video, Romano confirmed that the Red Devils remain strongly interested in signing the player, as they were this summer.
He said: “Man United, I can guarantee that even in their internal discussions at the club, they have not stopped discussing the name Carlos Baleba, because Baleba is still seen as an ideal fit by Ruben Amorim and the people at the club.
“Baleba is highly regarded by Man United. A move in January is considered unlikely, but at any time, in January or in the summer, if Brighton open the door to an exit for Baleba, Man United absolutely remain interested. Man United remain in contact with people close to the player.”
