A new Space balls movie is in preparation at Amazon MGM Studios. Mel Brooks announced that it is returning to the sequel to the 1987 parody film with a cast full of all-star actors eager to bring the colorful characters back to life.

Brooks directed, co-wrote and produced the first Space balls film, which also starred Jean Bonbon, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Dick Van Patten, George Wyner And Joan Rivers.

News of the sequel was first announced in June 2024, with Brooks signing on as producer. A year later, it was revealed that the cinema icon would reprise his role as Yogurt, a parody of the film Star Wars character Yoda.

Pullman and Moranis will also be back for the sequel – with a few new faces joining them for this wild adventure.

Josh Gad will produce and star in ‘Spaceballs 2’

Josh Gad is about to star in Space balls 2 alongside Brooks. A few months after the project’s development was announced, Gad said he had completed the script.

Who else is in the ‘Spaceballs 2’ cast?

In addition to Gad and Brooks, Kéké Palmer has joined the cast, but details about her role as Destiny are largely being kept under wraps. Pullman and Moranis will reprise their roles as Lone Starr and Dark Helmet, respectively.

Bill’s youngest son, Lewis Pullmanalso joined the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He will play a character named Starburst, the son of Queen Vespa and Lone Starr.

The black and white photo showed the group chatting among themselves while sitting around a table containing a laptop with someone on a video call. Fans of the film immediately understood that the image was a recreation of the table read for Star Wars: The Force Awakensrespecting Space balls‘ parody of the iconic franchise.

A trailer for “Spaceballs 2” has been released

Brooks shared a teaser for Space balls 2 on X, which presented a Star Wars-style black background with blue letters, June 12, 2025. The text displayed on the screen described how many Star Wars films and television shows have been produced in recent decades, as well as multiple Jurassic Park films, Marvel movies and shows and expansion of other major franchises.
