Cairney earns the Cottagers a point

Tom Cairney came off the bench to equalize superbly as Fulham earned a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.

In a low-key, low-quality Premier League match, the hosts looked to have won when Jean-Philippe Mateta produced a trademark header.

But Fulham were much better after the break and equalized when Cairney leaned in from the edge of the box.

Full-back Timothy Castagne came close to scoring the winner for Fulham in stoppage time, but his close-range shot was brilliantly saved by Dean Henderson.

The palace is about to sign Tottenham striker Brennan Johnson and seem to be running out of attacking options.

Mateta’s header was excellent but the Eagles ran out of ideas as the match progressed and held on in the end for a point. Palace are now without a win in their last five Premier League home games.

With captain Marc Guehi set for another month of transfer speculation and manager Oliver Glasner among the names touted for the vacant position at Chelsea, this could be another troubling time for Palace.

Nonetheless, they sit in the top half, one place above Fulham in ninth.
