Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton endured a long and grueling journey to College Football Playoffs.
Morton spent the second half of the 2025 season recovering from a hairline fracture in his right fibula, derailing a season in which he – and the Red Raiders – were firing at full throttle. The injury came after playing two full seasons with a Grade 3 AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder, which meant a complete tear of the ligaments connecting his collarbone to his shoulder blade.
Texas Tech only lost once after Morton’s injury this time, doing enough to reach the college playoffs as a 4 seed. When the Red Raiders began preparing for the University of Oregonthere was no way Morton was on the sidelines.
“That’s just not how I was raised,” Morton said, according to an article published by The United States today on December 31, 2025. “I will do everything possible to access this land.”

He continued: “When I’m healthy, I think the offense develops a lot. However, we have so many playmakers. It makes my job easier. If I can find them open and get them the ball quickly, I think we can be pretty explosive.”
With hopefully Morton’s best football ahead of him, he has his girlfriend, the Texas Tech football player. Kate Leibelsupporting him from the sidelines. The two have been together for over two years, and their relationship takes them from the gridiron to Texas wine country and beyond.
Although Leibel is still eligible if she wants to play another year, she lists herself as a Texas Tech alumna in her bio. on and now offers private soccer lessons to children in the Lubbock, Texas area.

The couple celebrated Christmas together in Morton’s hometown of Eastland, Texas. Leibel job a carousel of vacation photos, most of which feature the family dog.

The day after Texas Tech’s season-opening victory over University Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Leibel shared pictures of her and her friends supporting Morton during the game and at a pre-game tailgate. In one of the photos, she is wearing a shirt that says “Morton fan club.” She wears her No. 2 jersey in several others.
