Matt Damon was married to his wife, Lucy Barroso, for over 20 years – but it turns out his eyes were initially drawn to his best friend Ben Affleck.
“It’s completely true,” Damon, 55, began during the Monday, January 12, episode. The Howard Stern Show after being asked if Affleck, 53, was there the night he met his wife. “After we had been together for a little while, probably a few months, she admitted that – I think I met her best friend from high school and it turned out that they both went and saw Goodwill Hunt together and her best friend thought I was the cutest and she thought Ben was the cutest.
He added: “So she confessed to me…I’m like, ‘Did you do it wrong?!’ She told me 23 years ago.
When the host Howard Stern Asked Damon if hearing something like that “stays with you” over the years, Affleck and Damon pointed out that the trio often works together now — Barroso, 49, is a producer on The tear and Affleck’s next directorial project, Animals.
“She’s a great producer and a really good friend and yeah, I never got that vibe from her. So I think something I did in real life erased it,” Affleck joked, causing Stern, 72, and Damon to laugh. “You know, in person, you’re different. »
“Eventually she met him and all that went away,” Damon replied.
Stern noted that it would be “devastating” if Barroso “left him” and “ran away with Ben,” to which Damon wholeheartedly agreed. “If my two favorite people left my life? Yeah, that would suck.”
Damon and Affleck were the writers and stars of 1997. Goodwill Hunta film that won them Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Robin Williams. Damon met Barroso six years later in Miami while filming his film Stuck on you. The couple, who married in 2005, share four girls: Alexia, 25 years old, Isabella, 19 years old, Gia, 17 years old, and Stella, 15 years old.

While speaking to Stern, Affleck confessed that he had “witnessed a lot of great things from them along the way” during the couple’s 20 years of marriage.
“It’s a truly beautiful marriage and friendship and two people who, when separate and independent from each other, are each other’s partners,” he shared, adding that he may not have been there the day they met, but “I feel like it’s gotten better.”
Damon, for his part, revealed that it was The tear script supervisor, Steve Gehrkewho was actually with him when he was first introduced to Barroso, but he forgot this fact “for years” due to his love for her.
“I didn’t remember who I was with because all I remembered was her,” he said, which Affleck called a “good husband” comment.
“I’m like, ‘But also, you got hammered, and it’s a little vague,'” Affleck joked. “But he’s smart enough not to say that.”
Affleck added that he should ask for Barroso’s friend’s number to close the loop on the love box, but Damon had bad news. “She’s married, I just thought it was a funny joke – I can’t resist,” the Odyssey star said, to which Affleck replied: “Story of my life.”
Affleck was previously married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018 and the couple shares three children: Violet, 19 years old, Seraphina, 16 years old, and Samuel, 13 years old. He then got back together with his ex-fiancée Jennifer Lopez. The couple married in 2022, but ultimately decided to separate for good three years later.
