Devdutt Padikkal leads Karnataka record race

India batting Devdutt Padikkal produced a masterclass on Wednesday while playing for Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored a stunning century as Karnataka managed to reach an impressive total of 413.

Karnataka had a remarkable run chase that will be talked about for years to come. Chasing a massive target of 414 against Jharkhand in Ahmedabad, Karnataka won with over two overs remaining. The state recorded the second most successful run chase in List A cricket.

Padikkal led the hunt

Earlier, Jharkhand seemed to be in complete control after a brilliant innings of Ishan Kishan. He smashed a century off just 33 balls, punishing Karnataka’s bowling.

However, Karnataka built their chase with confidence, without giving in to pressure. Devdutt Padikkal anchored the innings with his 147 off 118 deliveries. He hit crisp shots all around the ground and ensured that the pace required never got out of hand.

The support he received from the other hitters proved crucial. Mayank Agarwal and Abhinav Manohar provided stability through key partnerships. Both scored half-centuries which kept Karnataka in the match.

One of the most beautiful chases

Even after Padikkal’s dismissal, Karnataka remained calm. Dhruv Prabhakar handled the pressure well and remained unbeaten on 40 to take his team across the finishing line.

Karnataka did not play risky shots out of desperation. Instead, they built partnerships, directed strikes well and attacked only when necessary. This approach kept them ahead of the required rate and left Jharkhand with no chance of a late comeback.

The run now ranks just behind South Africa’s famous 435-run run against Australia in 2006. With very few teams chasing more than 390 runs in List A cricket, Karnataka’s effort is considered one of the best batting displays in the history of the format.
