IO Interactive’s 007 First Light has been delayed until May 27

IO Interactive’s James Bond simulator 007 First Light has been postponed to May 27, 2026. It was supposed to be released in March. The company says the two-month time frame is for polishing and refining, which is fine by me. I always prefer to wait a little longer for a better end product.

IO says the game is already “fully playable from start to finish” but still requires a bit of attention to ensure “the most powerful version possible at launch.” The developer promises to share more updates early next year.

For the uninitiated, 007 First Light is the first James Bond game in more than a decade. The developer is the same organization behind the popular Hitman franchise, so this could potentially be the best Bond game since Goldeneye.

The gameplay feels fast, frenetic, and filled with espionage. It features an original story that draws inspiration from the entire franchise that has been running for decades. We had the opportunity to speak to narrative director Martin Emborg and he noted that the game stars a young and inexperienced Bond, which seems to be the direction Amazon is taking. with his next film.

The game also has a fairly rich cast. Patrick Gibson, The OA And Dexter: Original Sinplays the famous spy Lothario and Lenny Kravitz has been cast as the main villain. Other cast members include Lennie James, Kiera Lester, Alastair Mackenzie and Priyanga Burford.

Who knows when the next Bond film will be released, so this should be a nice little stopgap for fans.
